As property managers and leasing professionals, it is important to be compliant with Fair Housing laws, which were put in place to protect renters from discrimination. At Apartments.com, we understand that these laws can be extremely tricky! Anne Sadvosky, also known as The Fair Housing Queen, discussed what’s going on with Fair Housing laws and answered frequently asked questions including:
- What do I say when a prospect asks ‘Are there many blue people living here?’
- What if we don’t take pets but a prospect has a dog and says it is their service animal?
- One of our long-term elderly residents is complaining about the noise from the kids above her. What can we do?
- Help! We are running out of parking and it seems many of the prospective renters have handicapped permits.
- We think a resident is hoarding and we’re concerned about leasing the vacant unit next to her.
